I particularly like the part featuring Social SEO as far too often brands forget that people search by keywords on social media, especially sites like Facebook and Instagram ( Facebook in my opinion is the best search engine that isn't called a search engine ). The transaction price, or amount customers pay when they buy from you, can dictate your success. For example, if your average customer transaction is $100 but your competitor’s average customer transaction is $150, they will generate more revenues, and probably profits, per customer. As a result, they will be able to outspend you on advertising, and continue to gain market share at your expense.
How do you figure out what keywords your competitors are ranking for, you ask? Aside from manually searching for keywords in an incognito browser and seeing what positions your competitors are in, SEMrush allows you to run a number of free reports that show you the top keywords for the domain you enter. This is a quick way to get a sense of the types of terms your competitors are ranking for.
Find the best search keywords. What we are looking for are terms that get a lot of searches and are very relevant to your business. For instance, small business online marketing is a very targeted term for our business, but it gets fewer searches than just marketing. Using the two scores we now have, we can create a column that gives a total of the relevance score and the volume score. Create a final column called Total Score and have it be equal to the sum of twice the relevance score plus the volume score. (You want to double the relevance score since it is more important than the volume score because there is usually a lot of competition for the high volume keywords and it is not worth going after unless they are very relevant to your business.) Now sort by this column to give you the terms at the top of your list that have the highest combination of search volume and relevance. In the image below you can see what terms became the ones I should focus on for my example. Often the most relevant terms have the highest volume, but there are usually some interesting findings as well. For instance, for me the terms contemporary marketing, search engine marketing company and sale lead all got a 3 for a volume score, but because of their high relevance, they are in my top 30 search phrases to focus on.

The essence of successful marketing is positioning your content to capitalize on the right keywords. one way that firms chase the wrong keywords is failing to understand user intent. for example, consider a popular search term like “video delivery.” With more than 200,000 google searches a month, it would be tempting for a firm that sells video transmission equipment to optimize content around that term and capture more of the online demand. But what are people looking for when they search for video delivery? childbirth delivery? How to download video to a computer? Video transmission equipment? Thanks Asim! I know agencies still list themselves on local directories even though they are providing services nationwide or globally. So even if you don't have a physical store or place that customers go, that can still be listed to get those directory listings. If you have no address at all, it would be better to focus on niche-specific directories as opposed to local directories. But I'd only go for those that appear in search results for keywords that you are targeting or ones that are linked to reputable organizations in your industry.

Although more and more keywords are getting encrypted by Google every day, another smart way to come up with keyword ideas is to figure out which keywords your website is already getting found for. To do this, you'll need website analytics software like Google Analytics or HubSpot's Sources tool. Drill down into your website's traffic sources, and sift through you organic search traffic bucket to identify the keywords people are using to arrive at your site.
