In a recent post, Bluetext Creative Director Jason Siegel described the differences between a top digital marketing companies, top marketing companies and top marketing agencies. The answer was in the range of services they provide. In this post, we’ll answer another frequently asked question: What’s the difference between a marketing firm and a marketing agency? This is more than a trivial question, and and it can be confusing. But here’s one reason why it is an important question to address: The term “marketing firms” (as well as “top marketing firms”) is by far the most widely used search term when looking for information on vendors that provide marketing services.
Second, you can research keywords for your industry, determine which ones would make for great content, and use those as a basis for your topic ideas. For example, let's say you wanted to create a website about dog training. If you search this on Google AdWords Keyword Planner, you can download 801 suggested keyword phrases, all with estimated search volume.
A medical practice management firm hired MultiView to help market their services to doctors, especially anesthesiologists. Because the audience was highly specific, MultiView launched a targeted marketing campaign that focused on corporate briefs and industry publications and conducted PPC and remarketing ads. The firm picked up a number of new clients from areas covered by the campaigns and experienced an increase in web traffic.
FedEx. Commentators are forever saying how dumb corporate name and logo changes are. Well, they're clueless. As with anything else, name changes range from dumb to brilliant and everything in between. Adopting the viral conjunction "FedEx" allowed Federal Express (FDX) to capitalize on its leadership in express mail while diversifying into ground and other business services. It was brilliant. And its advertising has been groundbreaking, as well.
I was fortunate to start my career on the marketing team at WordStream, where I was able to develop my paid acquisition skills. What might be unclear to those who have never been on a marketing team specifically is how much actually goes into it. Aside from the pressure to produce, you have to learn complex systems, and if the team is small you have to develop a variety of skills to get even the simplest campaigns off the ground.
This introductory section contains an overview of your situation as it exists today and will provide a useful benchmark as you adapt and refine your plan in the coming months. Begin with a short description of your current product or service offering, the marketing advantages and challenges you face, and a look at the threats posed by your competitors. Describe any outside forces that will affect your business in the coming year--this can be anything from diminished traffic levels due to construction if you're a retailer or a change in law that could affect a new product introduction if you're an inventor, for example.
Weber Shandwick is a leading global PR company and a unit of Interpublic’s McCann Worldgroup. The agency was the only public relations agency included on Ad Age’s Agency A-list in 2014 and 2015 and the only PR firm designated an A-List Agency Standout in 2017. Repeat this exercise for as many topic buckets as you have. And remember, if you're having trouble coming up with relevant search terms, you can always head on over to your employees on the front lines -- like Sales or Services -- and ask them what types of terms their prospects and customers use, or common questions they have. Those are often great starting points for keyword research.

In many cases this thinking is shortsighted. If a widget maker captures demand (i.e., attracts traffic) for the “inexpensive” keyword, it has captured a lead – one that can be sold on a high quality product. without the traffic, there are no opportunities to upsell.

We'll narrow the lists down later in the process so you don't have something too unwieldy.
There are so many talented people out there who are willing and able to help you out on a contractual basis. They have a good sense for sorting through the clutter and figuring out what’s right for my project. " - Director of Marketing, San Francisco commercial development
If an existing keyword strategy is a year or two old or nonexistent, doing random tweaks will be like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. A more sounder approach is to conduct new keyword analysis annually to identify current online demand, and use that analysis as a framework for implementing tactical adjustments and/or large-scale content revisions.

" I am very pleased with the work that [Forthea] is doing for us. I see the progress we are making through inquires via phone calls and our estimate request page. Also, the commercial opportunities are making a difference. On a conference call with our managers yesterday, I made a compelling case on why we should--unequivocally--increase our spend with Forthea because SEO is producing opportunities at an ROI better than our other lead sources. I had total buy in once I produced the data yesterday. Thank you, Chris, and thank you to your team."
The term ‘creative agency’ may sound all-encompassing, but it typically refers to an agency offering more traditional marketing and advertising methods. For a creative agency, the focus is on presenting the business in the most aesthetically pleasing way, using a combination of creative advertising techniques such as print, public relations, television and radio advertising, and direct mail campaigns to do so.
The landscape of global agencies has become crowded and confusing over the last 10 years. While huge agency networks and holding companies are the vanguard, there has been a convergence of consulting firms and tech giants entering the frame to compete as well as in-house agencies. All of this continues to blur the line between what is considered an agency and who is best suited to help your global marketing, advertising, and digital initiatives.

Google and other search engines report the search volume for all search terms, enabling firms to gauge the relative popularity of keywords relevant to their business. If the search term “inexpensive industrial widgets” is used 10,000 times a month and the term “high quality industrial widgets” is used 1,000 times a month, we know that “inexpensive” has ten times the online demand of “high quality.”

"SoMe went far and above any agency I have worked with. They were ready to stop by whenever our owner needed clarification or wanted to meet face to face with them ...They were always willing to do what it took to make our team feel at ease and help us understand that if you did need to do something last minute, they were always very responsive and on the ball with that." - Marketing Director, Dining & Entertainment Venue
There can be considerable benefit in comparing these figures with those achieved by other organizations (especially those in the same industry); using, for instance, the figures which can be obtained (in the UK) from `The Centre for Interfirm Comparison'. The most sophisticated use of this approach, however, is typically by those making use of PIMS (Profit Impact of Management Strategies), initiated by the General Electric Company and then developed by Harvard Business School, but now run by the Strategic Planning Institute.
