When you think about the marketing process it is quite easy to recognize that it does not only relates to the provider, it also relates directly to the customer. Marketing holds all of the tools and strategies used to entice a customer into buying or trying a product. If the marketing is successful then your company will gain value through the consumers purchase. An example of this is something as simple as cold calling. Cold calling is a very old marketing technique that simply requires you to dial a phone number and try to sell your product or a service to the person that answers the phone. Once you are live on the phone you use your sales pitch to try and sell the product. This is marketing. Advertising on billboards, magazines, television; all of these are part of the marketing process.
At HubSpot, we’ve built our marketing team from two business school graduates working from a coffee table to a powerhouse of over 200 employees. Along the way, we’ve learned countless lessons that’ve shaped our current content marketing strategy, so we decided to illustrate our insights in a blog post to teach marketers how to develop a successful content marketing strategy, regardless of their team’s size.

In Keyword Planner, formerly known as the Keyword Tool, you can get search volume and traffic estimates for keywords you're considering. Unfortunately, when Google transitioned from Keyword Tool to Keyword Planner, they stripped out a lot of the more interesting functionality. But you can make up for it a bit if you take the information you learn from Keyword Planner and use Google Trends to fill in some blanks.

Once you have your strategy in place its time to decide what tactics are most important to the success of that strategy. For example, a company might decide to focus on four main tactics for the year: blog creation, a website re-vamp, SEO improvement and custom list development for email campaigns. While they may still want to work on their social media strategy and PR, for the year in question, they will devote the majority of their budget towards the four main tactics listed while continuing to allocate smaller budgets towards social media and PR, to keep them running. In addition, tactical calendars will be needed to help lay out the specifics of each tactic. For example, an editorial calendar will be needed for the content blogging strategy.

The purpose of a marketing plan is laying out how a company will achieve its stated business goals, and providing a framework to ensure that activities stay true to the vision and mission of the company. When starting the process of developing a marketing plan, there are five critical areas for consideration – positioning, objectives, strategy, tactics and execution. Our intention is to help prime the thought process prior to creating a marketing plan.
“Straight North has done an excellent job. We’re very satisfied. They give us great reporting. We get full data on cost per lead for the various channels. Our website identity has received many compliments. We’re extremely happy with the level of contact we have with them. They’re very responsive to our needs. The overall service level has been very high.”
Score each term on relevance to your business. Go through each row of the spreadsheet and score each search term on how relevant to your business it is in a new column called Relevance. I like to use a 1 to 5 scale, with 5 being the most relevant for my business. For example, I would give the term small business internet marketing a score of 5, while just the term marketing would probably get a 3 score, and the terms lead crystal, lead singer and lead acid should all get scored as a 1. These are all related to the word spelled l-e-a-d, but are not related to the word lead as I mean it, which is as a sales or marketing lead. The way I like to think about this is for the people searching on that term you are scoring, how likely is it that they will convert to a customer when they visit your website. A score of 1 means your business is not relevant to the person searching, a score of 5 means it is the perfect business for them.

Create keywords that combine branded and non-branded terms. Branded terms make great keywords not only because they make it easy to create ads and landing pages, but also because they signify high levels of intent. That’s just it, though: bidding exclusively on branded terms means you’re only advertising to searchers who already know who you are. Combining branded terms with non-branded ones expands the reach of your ads while boosting your Quality Scores.
Keyword marketing can have slightly different meanings depending on whom you ask. For ad buyers, keyword marketing involves purchasing ad units, typically banners, on the search results page when a Web surfer searches for particular keywords and phrases. For search engine optimization professionals, keyword marketing involves achieving top placement in the actual search listings themselves.

A beer festival in Edmonton hired Adster Creative to perform their digital marketing campaign. The event had historically been successful, but the owner wanted to boost performance with targeted marketing. Adster Creative delivered a highly customized AdWords PPC solution, as well as social media management and SEO focused on backlinking. Their efforts were a success, with a 67% lower bounce rate and 39% longer average session duration.

Knowing these big goals will also facilitate backing out the math. How much marketing will be needed to get to your biggest goals? You probably don’t have the budget to achieve that on day one. So, break it up into milestones, and identify the marketing needed to get you to each marker on the journey. One of the first will be hitting that crucial breakeven point, and paying your founding team enough to be able to afford to stay in business, and enjoy it.

If you are extremely savvy with taxes then by all means do them yourself. However for the common person, there are so many nuances to running your own business that it makes sense to push this responsibility onto an expert (like your clients are doing with you!). You can save a lot of money by having a professional file your taxes on a quarterly basis, helping you along the way with write-offs.
Instagram is the new, up-and-coming Facebook. Remember to grow your account organically and not buy followers. Create original content, consider video content, interact with users. One of my tried-and-tested practices on Instagram is to like your followers and other users’ photos. Always follow users back because the algorithm rewards you for staying active. Shedding users regularly might not be too helpful.
The classic quantification of a marketing plan appears in the form of budgets. Because these are so rigorously quantified, they are particularly important. They should, thus, represent an unequivocal projection of actions and expected results. What is more, they should be capable of being monitored accurately; and, indeed, performance against budget is the main (regular) management review process.
